The purchase of “prepaid excess baggage” is an act in which a passenger estimates the excess weight of his/her baggage and pays for such excess online in advance. By paying for excess baggage in advance, a passenger may enjoy a much simpler procedure for check-in at airport, thus shortening check-in duration and optimizing the passenger's travel experience.

Applicable routes:

1.  International round trips actually operated by China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines between Shanghai and New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto, London, Frankfurt, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Moscow, Prague, Madrid, Rome, and Brisbane;

2.  International round trips actually operated by China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines between Beijing and Sydney, Nanjing and Sydney, Fuzhou and New York, Xi'an and Moscow, Qingdao and San Francisco, Wenzhou and Rome, Chengdu and Los Angeles, and Nanjing and Los Angeles.

3.  International flights (outbound trips) actually operated by China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines from Shanghai to Paris, Hawaii, and Amsterdam;

4.  International flights (outbound trips) actually operated by China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines from Kunming to Paris.

5.  Round trips actually operated by China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines between Shanghai and Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao;

6.  Domestic round trips actually operated by China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines between Shanghai and Beijing, Kunming, Hefei, Xi'an, Qingdao, Wuhan, Jinan, Lanzhou, Taiyuan, Nanjing and Nanchang;

7.   The international and domestic flights (outbound trips) from Wenzhou are subject to the actually purchased flights.

A Guide to Purchase Excess Baggage

1.  Upon the successful purchase of a ticket for the international flight on which pre-paid baggage product is available, a passenger may log onto the official website 6 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the airplane,to buy pre-paid baggage product, or may purchase the aforesaid product at CEAIR customer experience center at Jiangning Road, Weihai Road or Lujiazui in Shanghai.

2.  From December 1, 2018, a passenger may enjoy a 20% discount when purchasing pre-paid baggage product under piece concept through CEAIR official channel (CEAIR official website/APP/Mobile website).

Product Rules:

1. Under piece concept: each passenger may carry no more than 5 pieces of baggage on each segment, and each piece shall not exceed 23 kg in weight. This rule applies to all cabin classes.

2. Under weight concept: each passenger may opt to purchase prepaid baggage products (weight limit: no more than 30kg) on each segment.   (Weight options: 5KG/10KG/15KG/20KG/25KG/30KG)

3. The sum of three sides’ dimensions (length, width and height) of the purchased prepaid baggage shall not exceed 158CM.

4. In case the actual excess baggage is less than the prepaid excess baggage, no refunding will be done for the prepaid excess. If the prepaid excess baggage fee cannot cover the actual excess baggage, the passenger must make up the difference based on the actual expense.

5. In case of endorsement of an air ticket, the prepaid baggage product must be refunded prior to the departure of airplane, with no handling charges imposed.

6. Purchase of Prepaid Excess Baggage allowance can only be refunded in full.For example, if a passenger purchases 2 pieces of excess baggage and each baggage is less than 23kg,the 2 pieces of excess baggage must be refunded together and not separately by piece or weight in kilograms.

7. Please request a refund through the original purchase channel. The refund is valid for 12 months after the product is purchased.
